Resurrection Sunday!

What a day to celebrate! What a display of love and power! On this day we see His authority confirmed (Acts 2:32-33), the hope our own future resurrection established (Rom. 6:4-5), the keys to death and hell confiscated (Rev. 1:18), the disarmament and humiliation of ruler and powers as He put them to open shame (Col. 2:15), and the comfort that a living Savior brings to His people (Matt. 28:18-20). Oh, what a Savior!

Here are some of the highlights from the time spent remembering the Resurrection of our Lord.

Once again, we must be careful as parents of children. Woe to us if we find ourselves focusing on the peripherals (bunnies, eggs, candy, etc.), while merely moving Christ into the "also" category. For all of His suffering, He will have no competition on this day or any. However, woe to us also if we, as those who have true hope, are out celebrated by a world that has none.

"Lord, please allow us to convey your worth and beauty in all things in a way that is both referent and childlike. Lord, keep our hearts from ever being lift up to lesser things. Amen."

Homeschool Letters Y & Z

Here are the final 2 weeks of our journey through the alphabet using "Tot School Printables". We are currently on week 2, letter B, with our new curriculum "Animal ABCs". Jordyn is more interested in tracing letters than ever before. I will use her interest to my advantage in the weeks to come. I hope to establish correct tracing habits early, before she has a chance to create her own way to trace the letter 'B' for example. I have found the ipad to be a very useful tool in teaching her how to trace letters. We are loving our other new curriculum "All About Reading (Prelevel)". Also, our new puppet friend that visits us, 'Ziggy the Zebra,' is probably the highlight of our school day. The only downside is that, for the last 2 weeks, anytime Ziggy has to go back 'home' Jordyn has an absolute meltdown.

Valentines Fun

Since love is the theme of the month of February, we focused on what love IS and what love ISN'T. The text was out of 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
Love is patient, Love is kind,
it does not envy,
it does not boast,
It is not proud,
it is not rude,
it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs,
love does not delight in evil but
rejoices with the truth,
it always protects,
always trusts,
always hopes,
always perseveres,
love never fails.
Thanks for all the sweet stuffed animals everyone!

This card was for baby Clara Lee.

This page is for her Daddy for Valentines.

Look at the concentration....lol

This one was for her Papaw but it is now on our refrigerator.

Our books on LOVE!

1 Cor. 13:4-8a
Jordyn pulled a heart shaped "flower" out of the vase, each "flower" contained a part of the verse on it.
Ex. Does not boast.
The conversations were hilarious as we talked about what each one meant.
We then went to scripture to see what God says about each one.

Homeschool weeks 21, 22, & 23

What fun we have had! I have just been very lazy with my picture taking. I am regretting that now as I blog about our 'letter focus' work. I only took 3 pictures the whole week of the letter "W." This is why I put 3 weeks on this blogpost.

Week 21
V is for VOLCANO

The stamping turned into dot painting and identifying the uppercase and the lowercase letters.

Tracing
I did the big V and she is tracing over it.
She did the little v.

Tracing turned into stickering, once again I tried to do a pattern with her.

Stickering turned into FACE DECORATING

Tracing her Doc McStuffins again

OUR VOLCANO EXPERIMENT

playdoh as the volcano mold
vinegar with red food coloring
baking soda

Jordyn got to add the baking soda

We had talked about how lava was HOT!! She wanted to get as far away from it as she could.

She was blowing on it!

WEEK 22
W is for WINDOW

WWWWaffles with blueberries

Tracing her Circles before letter work

Tracing her lines

WEEK 23
X is for Xylophone
THEME: INSTRUMENTS

THE ELLIOTT BAND
Jordyn on the triangle,
Daddy on the noisy thing,
Caleb on the bells,
Mommy as the videographer

Here is our lead singer:
Colin  Sir   Elliott

Not sure if the band will be together long...

Jordyn was the triangle queen morning, noon, and night for this week. HELP!!!

This is our new set up for Calendar/Praise Time in the morning.
Our new praise time board correlates to the buckets that are attached to the shelf. She 'draws' the color, shape, animal, and letter of the DAY out of them. The books on the shelf are switched out everyday. I got this new shelf b/c I felt like I wasn't reading to her as often as I wanted to. This is a very good visual aid to remind us to read during this time.
